What's In Season: Blueberries

What’s in Season: Blueberries – A Summer Classic Reimagined

The sunny days all this August have our palettes craving something sweet, refreshing, and absolutely delicious. With sunshine lingering into the evenings and markets bursting with vibrant produce, it’s no surprise we’re savoring this month’s seasonal ingredient: the blueberry. Juicy, bold, and packed with flavor, blueberries are nature’s candy this time of year—and they’re taking center stage for August’s “What’s in Season” highlight.

We’re celebrating all things blueberry with one of the dreamiest desserts we’ve tasted in a long time: Tum Tum’s August Cake, a brown sugar chiffon layered with maple blueberry compote and wrapped in a cloud of maple buttercream. It’s light, elegant, and just indulgent enough to satisfy every sweet craving summer brings.

Tessa of Tum Tum tells us, “Juicy and sweet, blueberries are a summer classic. I enjoy blueberries cooked down with some maple syrup & lemon zest. It’s nostalgic of blueberry pancakes, in the best way.”

And that’s exactly the feeling this cake delivers—like Sunday morning comfort dressed up for your next dinner party. The tart pop of the berries plays beautifully with the smooth richness of the maple and brown sugar, creating a balance that feels both cozy and refreshing. It’s the kind of cake that makes you pause mid-bite and smile.

But we couldn’t stop there.

To bring a bit of a buzz (literally) to the flavor story, we’re pairing this dreamy dessert with one of our newest cocktail creations: the Blueberry Pineapple Tequila Sour. If you remember, we gave you a sneak peek at this vibrant summer sip last week, and now it's officially on the menu.

Ingredients:

2oz Tequila

1.5oz Pineapple juice

0.75oz Lemon juice

0.5oz Blueberry syrup

1 Egg white

In a shaker, add ice and add in

-2oz Tequila

-1.5oz Pineapple juice

-0.75oz Lemon juice

-0.5oz Blueberry syrup

-1 Egg white

Shake and pour into new glass

This cocktail is fruity, tangy, and totally unexpected in the best way—pairing the tartness of blueberries with the tropical sweetness of pineapple, rounded out by the warmth of tequila and just the right amount of frothy sour magic. It’s bold enough to stand on its own but harmonious when sipped alongside Tum Tum’s blueberry cake.

Whether you're hosting a backyard brunch, a late-summer wedding, or a golden hour cocktail hour, blueberries are the perfect seasonal ingredient to weave into your late-August moments.
