How to Refine Your Perfect Wedding Style

Because yes, we all love Pinterest, but we also believe that curating a style that is unique to you and your love can be effortless and make for an oh-so-special evening.

How to Refine Your Perfect Wedding Style

Whether you’re the person who has always known what their wedding was going to look like, or you haven’t given a thought about it at all, we think that a fun brainstorming session with your fiance is key to refining your perfect wedding style that encompasses all that is your relationship. Taking the time to think about what you envision for your wedding can help guide your planning decisions and visually explain your desires to your wedding team so that your special day is everything you could want–and a little bit more.

Here are our tips for finding that perfect style just for your wedding

Think about what is special to you two

Taking the time to think about what you two absolutely love to do together and the aesthetic you two might have together is the best first step to figuring out your own wedding style. If you’re stumped, ask your closest friends how they would describe you two–whether it’s cool and laid back, loud and colorful, or modern and refined–they might give you a good start to thinking about your own style.

Here are a couple of essential questions that you can use to brainstorm:

  • What do we enjoy doing together as a couple? Are we laid-back or do we enjoy being the life of the party—or both?

  • Where has been our favorite vacation, date, place to spend time together? How can we incorporate the feeling/mood that those places give us?

  • What season makes sense for our wedding?

  • What type of wedding do we not want? What are things that don’t feel like us?

Discuss your must-have’s and what you envision (and be open to compromising)

When you think about your wedding day, odds are that you can agree that certain themes stick better than others. Between boho, modern, geometric, warm-toned, all-black, all-white, or all-floral-everything, having a general direction will lead you throughout the detail-finding process.

Setting a framework for your must-have’s and definitely-must-skip’s is also something important to establish in the beginning of the brainstorming process. Choose the essentials and fun extra’s that you would absolutely love to have on your special day–whether it’s a fun photobooth or a champagne wall entrance–and see where you two can agree (and/or compromise).

Find inspo that speaks to you from (you guessed it) Pinterest

Once you have an idea for how you envision your wedding, use Pinterest as a supplementary source of inspiration. Find inspiration for your ceremony space, tablescapes, and even fun ideas that you would love to incorporate (bouncy house? Champagne mobile bar? Make-your-own Waffle Bar?) and pin your favorites for the next step of the process: the Mood Board.

Create your Mood Board

Putting together a Mood Board is a great way to put all of your ideas into one, cohesive place so you (and your wedding planner) can visually digest your ideal style. Include an ideal color palette, textures, and accents you would love to incorporate, and fun details that excite you, like your bridesmaids dresses, cute photo ideas, or delectable food spreads.

Sleep on it, and take it offline

This could potentially be the most important part–print out or put together a physical collage of your mood board and put it up on the fridge, in your room, or in your office space. Make sure that seeing it evokes all the emotions, makes you excited, and feels unique and right for your relationship. From here, your wedding planner can take your final mood board and make sure that between all of the ideas, the styling, and the vendors, your dreams will become a reality.
