What We Know: Current Hawaiʻi Wedding Restrictions

We will continue to keep this blog updated with Hawaiʻi’s wedding restrictions.

Here’s a little more information about the current state of Hawaii wedding restrictions. We know that this isn’t the easiest news to hear, so we’re giving a *big virtual hug* to all of you–and we’re more than happy to give any additional guidance to you through this time.

Q: What are the current wedding restrictions in the city and county of Honolulu?

A: Due to rising COVID cases and hospitalizations, Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced starting August 25, 2021 that for the proceeding 28 days, outdoor gatherings are limited to 25 people total, with indoor gatherings limited to 10 people total. This unfortunately now applies to weddings or "Professional Events" as well, meaning that it is irrelevant if you had a mitigation plan already in place.

Q: My wedding falls during the 28-day period, beginning August 25th. Everything is paid for, my guests bought flights, etc. What am I supposed to do now?

A: Our suggestion is to consider a wedding with a total count of 25 or less, or “postponing indefinitely “ in the hopes of retaining any future credits with your hotels, flights, vendors. This will give you more time to think about how you would like to move forward. We’re giving a *big big virtual hug here* as we know this is the last thing you want to hear before your special day.

Q: My wedding is after September 22nd (28-day period end date), will I need to be worried about the chance of the mandate being extended?

A: With the possibility of an extension of these restrictions, we highly suggest planning on an option A and B for if the restrictions do lift or continue. Unfortunately, there is no way for us to know when he will make the announcement. In the event that cases do drop by then, we are hopeful that he will be able to give ample notification as to whether the restrictions will continue or be lifted.

We know that isn’t the easiest news to handle, so we’re all ears if you need any additional guidance, support, or clarity. We’ll get through this, together!
